Wow! Thanks for the posting. I too have a photo of a man I believe to be Henry Osborne. I am trying to find THE LOCATION OF HIS GRAVE SITE. I believe his first wife was "Susan Young" and after her death he married "Rosa" My research leads me to believe he had as many as 13 children with Susan and Rosa. EITHER Susan or Rosa is buried at the "End of the Trail" with son Rufus Anthony, who my Mom always called "Uncle Buzz". I am not sure who was the mother of Buzz, I just know both Mom and son are burried together. I sure hope you or someone in your family may know the LOCATION OF HENRY'S grave site. Thanks so much. Joel Mason.

Our genealogy experts are probably aware of this site and someone may have mentioned it, but I found www.ancestry.com quite interesting. I looked at the Tinchers and found some interesting info including immigration years and places of origin, possible meanings of the name, the number of Tinchers who served for the Union versus the Confederacy, the distribution of Tincher families in the 1800's and early 1900's (for research purposes), my mom and dad's names & years of death in the deceased records and far more info - http://www.ancestry.com/learn/facts/fact.aspx?fid=7&ln=Tincher&fn= They offer some intriguing free information and a free trial, but ongoing subscriptions have an annual fee. I plan to try the free trial when I have more time. BTW, many Henry Osbornes are listed. Dale

Could be a conection Jessica :)
As I mentioned Henry Osborne had many children by his two wives. Please let me know the first names of your Osborne parent and grant parent and I will look for a match. The Henry Osborne whose grave site I am looking for was born 1836 and died 1908. He was the son of Len and Betsy "Malone" Osborne. As I mentioned one of the wives of this Henry Osborne is burried at the End of the Trail with one of Henry's sons who was Rufus Anthony "Buzz" Osborne. I believe but am not totally certain, but this Henry Osborne had a brother named William or Billy Osborne. I am not certain as my time over the years has allowed me to trace along Henry's line only. Thanks for the posting. Joel Mason

Anyone know where the Osborne Cemetery in Craig is located? Directions from Rainelle area would be most helpful.

Mr. Estep I will try to get a scan of the picture I have of Henry Osborne to see if it is the same picture you have. I believe it to be Henry, but I am not positive. Thanks. Joel Mason

Joel,
In the "Greenbrier County Cemeteries--Meadow Bluff District", the directions for the Osborne Cemetery are: "This cemetery is located at Crag on County Route 24 (Crag Road) approximately 0.5 mile southwest of its intersection with County Route 20/2 (Fleshman Hollow Road)-this cemetery is accessible by a jeep trail crossing the Lance Farm---18 marked graves, at least 5 unmarked."

Henry Osborne is not listed as being buried in the Osborne Cemetery, but it could be an unmarked grave. I can't find him listed at any cemetery in the Meadow Bluff District or Blue Sulphur Districts---over 100 Osbornes listed.

Good web sites for genealogy are www.cyndislist.com and www.newrivernotes.com. There are soooooo many web sites, sometimes it's good to just google the name or family you're searching for. www.usgenweb.com is also good, but the county sites are not being updated with new information as often as they used to be.

A note about ancestry.com. Before you subscribe, check with your local library. The library in Marion has a library edition of ancestry.com which can be accessed for free at the library. You have to go to the library to do it, but it's FREE! So check on that before you send any money to ancestry.com.

Janet,
Thank you so much for your great suggestions and help. I am now able to access Heritage Quest and I will certainly check on Ancestry.com at my library. You have may already heard of a terrific genealogy website called, "Footprints of Fayette County" on Myfamily.com? If not--there is a ton of information available---pictures, obituaries, cemeteries, churches, coal mines, newspaper articles, birth, death, marriage records, family trees, other links, etc. There are numerous people who are willing to do look-ups or help in your research not only for Fayette County, but for some other counties as well. Membership is absolutely FREE, but by invitation only. I would be very happy to get you or anyone else an invitation to the website. First and last name and email address are needed for membership.

Thanks again for your help! PennieZ123@aol.com

http://www.wvculture.org/history/medals.html At this site you can read the list of unclaimed Civil War medals in West Virginia and submit a claim for the medal of your ancestor.

This is a message that was posted on the Greenbrier Co. Rootsweb list serve. I'm posting it here in case anyone recognizes names from the photos listed and would like to contact Karen Cottrill to obtain the photo. KesslerWV@aol.com

quote:
Hello
Once again I am attempting to locate family of people I have photo's of.
These photos were left to me when a cousin died and left no immediate family. I
had listed them several years ago on the Greenbrier Co. list and was able to
send most of the older ones to researchers working their lines. However, I have
literally hundreds of photographs I need to find homes for. Some of them have
names or dates on the back and I am listing them below. Unfortunately, a lot of
them aren't titled. If any of these are your family contact me off list at
KesslerWV@aol.com and I will give them to you.

Just a bit of a background of where they came from so you will know the area
of Greenbrier Co. this family lived in. Augustus Allen Price (Uncle Gus)
1883-1963, son of Joseph D. Price 1842-1926 and Margaret C. Remley 1842-1917,
married Lennah Shawver (Aunt Lennah) 1885-1973 daughter of Lycurgus Shawver (Curg)
1857-and Josephine McClung 1863— Curg was a sheep farmer.

Uncle Gus Price ran a grist mill on Friday & Saturday and made flour and corn
meal. He built their big white house on the hill on their 104 acres of land
above Rupert near Kessler, WV. He also ran a saw mill. He later built a smaller
home on the same property for his daughter and her husband. He also built a
summer home and wildlife retreat, "Laurel Lodge" (sometimes called Laureldale)
at Kessler, WV on Big Clear Creek, about 3 miles from Rupert for his sister
Heneretta (Etta) and her husband Dr. Archibald K. Kessler who lived in
Huntington, WV.

He and Aunt Lennah had 3 children Edith Price who was born and died in 1911,
Haward Price who died at the age of 16 and Hazel Price who married Clarence
Armstrong but never had children. Cousin Hazel had a tremendous amount of photos
in her possession when she passed away in 1994. Being the family historian,
just about all of them were given to me. Here I am 12 years later still trying
to find a home for all these pictures. This will probably be my last attempt
and any that are not claimed this time will be sent to the Greenbrier Co.,
Historical Society in Lewisburg.

Also from Greenbrier List serve:

Subject: [WVGREENB] CSA vets Davis - McClung - Dunn - Skaggs
There are four very brave men buried in Greenbrier County:

Lewis Stuart Davis, VMI Class of 1867, Fort Spring
Thomas William McClung, VMI Class of 1867, Lewisburg
John Robert Dunn, VMI Class of 1867, Ronceverte
Sanford Bernard Skaggs, VMI Class of 1867
We need photos of the graves. Grave locations are unknown. ;-(

The VMI Corps of Cadets fought as a unit at the Battle of New Market, Virginia, on May 15, 1864. Two hundred fifty seven cadets were on the field. Ten cadets were killed in battle or died later from the effects of their wounds; 45 were wounded. The youngest participating cadet was fifteen; the oldest twenty-five.
Two VMI alumni are attempting to obtain photos of the graves and biographical of all 257 cadets who fought in the Battle of New Market in the Civil War. This is a HUGE task. RAoGK has offered to help with the database.

You can visit their web page at http://www.augustagavmiaa.info/ and click on the New Market Cadet database.
Read about the battle at http://www.vmi.edu/archives/Civil_War/cwnm.html.

Hopefully someone on this list has the time to locate and photograph the grave. We welcome any additional biographical information not in the VMI archives or "The Corps Forward" by Couper and Gibson. If in doubt, send what you have and we will compare it. ;-)

Please send to me, sarahreveley@grandecom.net . I will then combine all the data on him and send it to them. They contacted me about my ancestor George Francis Reveley, who was a cadet then, and I volunteered to help them get the other graves photographed, knowing we have so many wonderful people on Rootsweb that will help. ;-)

Thanks,
Sarah Reveley
