More treats! Gerry Mitchell has scanned several additional photos from yearbooks. They currently range from 1959 to 1964 (with more to come) and include band photos, majorettes, sports photos, etc. I have uploaded them to both KodakGallery.com and Photoworks.com. Thanks to Polly, I have learned that KodakGallery does a better job for dial-up users. Photoworks provides a larger, clearer photo if your connection will support it. You can order prints, if desired, from either, but PhotoWorks will probably do a better job if you want large photos (I'm guessing.)

Update: 2-18-06 - Gerry has sent additional scanned photos of the Class of 63 and 64.

The originals that Gerry Scanned are much larger and clearer. Kodak and Photoworks reduce the photo sizes in order to improve download time, etc. This is an example of an original 1.4MB scan of the 1962 State Champion Football team:

Thanks again, Gerry!

Just viewed your photos. Thanks for the memories. The Ranger Band was awesome. There were more members in the picture in 1964 than Greenbrier West band ever had.

Remember before each home game how the band would march from the King Coal Hotel to the football field? The street would be lined with proud parents, neighbors, and fellow students. " When the Saints Go Marching In" would be ringing from the mountain tops. Oh, what glorious and beautiful fall days we spent in Rainelle. We were blessed with the best!!!!

In the future, photos will be linked from the Website since it is much easier to organize and manage them from the Website. Please see the photos' page for the links - http://www.rainellereunion.com/photos.html

Yearbook photos scanned by Gerry Mitchell will be linked from the Class pages. I hope you find this easier to follow.

Chris, since Conard thought I might remember some of the old businesses in town I came up witht these: Don Array Shop, Hugharts Men Store, Billy Shockley--IGA ( Gene Nelson and Claude Morton worked there when I was a little girl), Hameds' 5 and 10, Mick and Mack 5 and 10, Royal Cafe, Rosalie Lunch, Greenbrier Dispatch Office, Nunleys Tavern, Martin Jewelers,(Ruby Martins husband owned this), Mossers Drug Store, Mrs. Irene Hutsenpiller Flower Shop, Ola Alvis Flower Shop, Dickenson Brothers Furniture, Alvis Furniure, Ammar Brothers, Betty and Theresa Twohig ran the little restaurant, where we ate when we were in grade school, Preacher Westlake at the First Baptist Church, Bible School was held at the East Rainelle Graded School and I truly believe every child in East Rainelle atteneded. I have pictures of these Bible School days. Lots of kids I still reconize from those days. I remember the Hersey Reds baseball team and they played behind the Old Rainelle Dept. Store. My oldest brother played on that team and we went to the games every Sunday afternoon. I remember sledding down off the school house hill (Neffs) all the way down Gbr. Ave. to 9th street. The older guys would build big bon fires at night to let us warm up. I learned to swim in the sewer line Meadow River and everyone thought I would take a disease. I am still here as I am sure a lot of other kids are. Iforgot to mention Veon Cox's Grocery Store, Price-McKnight Grocery Store, and Webbs Market. Yes, Pudge, I remember when the old Fiesta Club was called Geno's. He did make the best pizza. I also, remember the Couples Club at Hines and it was also called the Rendevous Club at one time. Sure did have a good time growing up here. Enough said for today. Conard should have known not to get me started.

Well Shirley...... It worked ! I must say you remembered quite a few that I did not. Keep up the good work. I sure do recall the good times on Greenbrier Ave. Do you remember the day that Lake Lambert went beneath the car parked in front of Jo Jo Yeargo's home and near tore his scalp off ? Not so good times always.

At the mention of Lake Lambert being scalped, I had to include that I was married to Lake until his death in 1976. He had a scar that went ear to ear. He was one lucky kid to have survived that.

I lived across the road from the Lambert's and remember being told about that incident almost every winter before heading out to go sleigh riding. Sleigh riding down Greenbriar was taboo after that one.

I just checked out the clas web pages and since I graduted in 1962, that is the first one I checked. The Reunion #2 picture is of the class of 1952. The other two are of 1962. I really appreciate this site and not being critical at all, but just wanted to let someone know. Now I am going back to read more posts.

Thank you, Tom. Actually, both '52 and '62 are in that photo - '52 is on the top and '62 is on the bottom. We scanned the reunion booklet a page at a time and some pages have both classes on them. Please scroll down or expand the page (using the Windows expand button that appears in the lower right of the photo (in most Windows versions)) and you will see the 1962 photo. Thank you again for pointing this out - someone else may run into the same situation.

We hope to find time to separate the pictures on the pages so each classes' photo will appear by itself.

After reading your post, I added a comment on the pages that some photos have 2 class photos per page.

We will make mistakes and appreciate all comments, suggestions and corrections.

Thank you, Dale

Hello everyone,

Unless we missed a page or two, every reunion page should have only its individual class's photo when you click upon the class year and reunion link: http://www.rainellereunion.com/classes.html You may need to "refresh" the class pages if you visited them recently. If you wish, you can start with your class's yearbook, go to the first reunion, travel to the second reunion, then go to the third reunion and watch your classmates age. I hate that I missed many of the reunions, but perhaps watching my photos go from 132 pounds in high school to 213 now might depress me (for a few minutes.)

It is great fun to do see our wonderful classmates on the pages and remember the good times.

Gerry Mitchell is anxiously awaiting more yearbooks to scan so we can make further progress on the yearbook links.

We will be adding additional Rainelle area photos over the next couple of days. Keep checking back - we're having fun and more is on the way.

A special note of thanks to Chris Dawson for his wonderful posts. I have heard from friends that some classmates are reluctant to post, but are having a great time reading the posts. This is evidenced (as Chris mentioned) by the 1,200 page views on the "Do you remember" topic and 1,000 views on the photos topic. Don't forget that we have classmates who have limited mobility and/or ability to get out and we have heard that they are having a great time reading and remembering. They would love to hear from you -- and your comments will spark a smile and memories for them and all of us.

Sorry folks. Sometimes you try to get a hit but end up with hitting a foul.

Well Chris, time to get the dunce hat and go set in the corner for an hour.
Then go to the chalkboard and write 100 time “Remember Rule # 1”
as taught to you by your parents.

Thanks to Dale, Gerry, Andy, Patty, and numerous others for all
the work and effort you put into making the web site work.

I must complement someone for the outstanding “marquee”.
“Good Job” and very well done.

The photos section is more impressive with each update.
