Uh, the last time i heard a wizard story, he was revealed as a whole lot of smoke and mirrors behind a curtain. So let's stay away from that wizard thing. LOL

The alumni who come to donate a work day to the caboose can be the "Train Crew".......

But I do like the idea of a Railroad Festival.......Market it to all those railroad and model railroad buffs......All the people who grew up in Rainelle and would like to come back to visit. I think there's a market there.....

We have an Apple Festival in Chilhowie every September and it draws over 10,000 people for the Saturday events which include an arts/crafts area, parade, exhibits of floral design, artwork for school students, garden produce and baked goods which are judged in kind of a country fair competition, a high school band competition, beauty pagent......very big deal. And if you've ever been to Chilhowie, you would see that it is a VERY small town which also has a lot of empty buildings. But trying to re-develop itself.

Keep talking about this......I know it would be a lot of work for those who live in Rainelle, wish I LIVED there so I could participate more. Maybe someday...

Here's a thought. How would one go about getting the old State Police headquarters there? Is it occupied? Park the Chessie Caboose in front of that. Make the caboose a historical site in honor of the railroad in Rainelle and use the headquarters for a site in honor of the lumber mill.

In the 40's- 50's there was a teacher in Rainelle by the name of Helen Green. She lived in the mill house with her parents prior to her marriage. Anyway, she died a few years back and willed her Rainelle papers to my sister, Elda. Elda would love to have a place for people to enjoy these. I believe these to be quite extensive with lot of town history.

"The C&O Railroad and Meadow River Lumber Company Museum". People came from all over the world to see the Meadow River Lumber Company when it was in existence. "If you build it, they will come..."

If only it were true today. If only wishing could make it happen.

One word “Money”.
As someone once said “I’ve been rich and I’ve been poor. Rich is better”.
Several possibilities as to the final home for #903503. It all depends when and how it comes together.

Is that Chilhowie, VA? Are you kidding me?
There are good wizards and not so good wizards.
Just as there are good witches and not so good witches.
Glinda “The Good Witch of The North”
Barbara Boxer “The Wicked Witch of The West”
So instead of smoke and curtains hence a fake Wizard
You are a Good Wizard, honest and true.

Janet – I was just messing with you. I know it’s difficult to tell from words. I even have a very good “poker face” except for my eyes. Read my eyes, it’s a dead give away.

I’m searching for stuff to use to post for the Chessie Caboose. Not so easy to find new stuff. I did locate this free to listen to railroad song. 900 Miles.
Really great beginning. Steam locomotive huff’n and a puff’n starting out and that old familiar steam whistle we all remember. For me it loaded in QuickTime Player

Some other stuff or their home page. http://www.mcneilmusic.com/railroad.html

Located in Cresson, Pennsylvania this is a great web sit to browse. It’s all about trains in a sleepy little town that could be Rainelle (if it were on the main line).

Check out these great photos of restore cabooses.
http://stationinnpa.com/photos/0314prrcab.jpg Could this be Chessie setting at the old State Police Station. Could be.

Hello Classmates,

I did talk to Ron Fleshman a 1966 graduate about our Chessie. Ron is our Nationwide Insurance Agent in Rainelle...a fine young man.. I invited him to visit to our website and go directly to the topic Chessie Caboose. You see classmates, Ron is President of the Rainelle Park Board. He did say he would read all five pages at my request, I informed him that we needed a non profit organization to back us up...he seemed very interested and would bring it up at next weeks board meeting....Of course their is one problem....the park board is in need of money......as you can see in his picture wondering where and what to do next for the parks.....HE NEEDS SOMEONE TO SHOW ME THE MONEY...lol.....

Let's all give Ron a little encouragement....see his profile and email him.....I will have to leave Dodge City ..after he reads this..lol

A question......What was the title of the men that worked on the caboose? our new name

Andy

Dale, Andy, someone, I think we should download this picture and see if Gerry can enlarge it using his magic to 8 ½ x 11 and then if someone has a color photo printer.
I suggest we have a high quality color copy for future reference. I downloaded a copy today and discovered my color ink cartridge had dried up. Also I don’t have any photo paper.
This could save a lot of time with ideas from what we can see. Don’t need to re-invent the wheel.

Couple of web sites I found interesting

http://www.newrivertrain.com/museum.shtml
I noticed the two caboose pictures (1 near the top and 1 at the bottom) had been donated by CSX

http://www.cohs.org/magazine/cohistory-dec02.pdf
You will need Adobe program to view, File Format: PDF/Adobe Acrobat
Some nice old railroad pictures. Great copy of a C&O ad in November 1940 Newsweek at the bottom page 16 of the file.

Just trying to keep the Chessie fold in view.

We don't want a bunny or a doggie
We don't want a parrot that talks
We don't want a bowl of little fishies
Nor any creature that squawks

We want that little kitty in the in the rail yard
The one all tattered and worn
We want that little kitty in the in the rail yard
With a fresh blanket it’ll be like a new born
