Chessie was a poor old wooden caboose He was lonely because he was taken out of use His wheels were rusted and needed some coal black care So Chessie-----just stood there and never let it show And no one would ever know That he longed to be the main attraction in the Rainelle Reunion show
Poor old Chessie, he never got a tug Poor old Chessie, rotting away like an ugly bug Is it any wonder that his paint was faded red Chessie with the little kitty head
Then one day someone came And took him so very far away Now we no longer see him setting there As we wonder why we couldn’t get anyone to care
Poor old Chessie, if only we could Poor old Chessie, save him from becoming just more fire wood Is it any wonder that his paint was faded red Chessie with the little kitty head
Well who were you expecting, Hank or Charlie

Chris,
I was expecting you ......I love it......I do wish there was something we could do....It seems like we are growing fonder of the little chessie that sets on the tracks waiting for someone to notice.
Yes, one day the little yellow Chessie will just be a memory as all of his brothers and sister along with moma and papa are now.... Yes, a flash back of memories "What Was" browsing through all the old photos. Yes, a season of saying we should have done something. OH ME, OH MY

“Watch your phraseology” OH ME, OH MY If you were expecting "Yvonne", blu by you is as close as I can get.
I remembered Chessie was yellow but I got hung-up on red. I was in a hurry and was never happy with how the whole thing came together. This morning I set down with a clear mind and tried to rework “Save The Chessie Caboose” poem or song or what ever it is. I would encourage everyone to contribute their thoughts and lets have a great ditty for “Save The Chessie Caboose”
Chessie was a poor old wooden caboose He was lonely because he was taken out of use His wheels were rusted and needed some coal black care As he waited and waited for someone who would dare
Poor old Chessie, he finally lost his tug Poor old Chessie, he really misses that chug Is it any wonder that his yellow paint was faded Chessie with the little kitty head is now out-dated
Chessie-----just stood there and tried to never let it show And hoping that someone would know With a new yellow coat he would glow As the main attraction in the Rainelle Reunion show
Poor old Chessie, he finally lost his tug Poor old Chessie, he really misses that chug Is it any wonder that his yellow paint was faded Chessie with the little kitty head is now out-dated
Then one day someone came And took him so very far away Now we no longer see him setting there As we wonder why we couldn’t get anyone to care

To all who love Chessie,
Her name was brought up on March 30 at the all school reunion meeting. Most everyone looked at me so dumb founded not even knowing about our little Chessie. She has been sitting on the tracks for so long that Chessie is just another figure on the track left unnoticed.
The vines are starting to grow back again this year as the spring has sprung with no hope of being noticed.
Everyone was mused at the meeting when I had suggested the web classmates would like to obtain the little cat.
The meeting just proceeded to another subject...I guess they thought it was a joke....
Poor little Chessie again is unnoticed...

Andy: Come here and let me give you a big hug. I alone encouraged you to go forward with this vision. I’m not sorry for that. I’m sorry that you felt the embarrassment and humiliation of feeling alone. I’ve been there many times. I wish I could have been there to stand beside you. But, wrong audience, wrong time, and wrong place. It was the place to start. And something I said earlier about giving up, don’t even go there. Lets evaluate what we would like to see the chessie caboose become and start to make our case as we contact other people, organizations, etc. We are not giving up. As a matter if fact go to the following web site read the heading and last two lines http://actual1.wordpress.com/2006/03/01/im-mad-as-hell-and-im-not-going-to-take-this-anymore/ Then just calm down, close your eyes, click your heals three times and repeat, “We can do this”. Looking forward to your reply.

Chris, Please don't feel bad for Andy. Trust me on this one...she did not feel lonely, embarrassed or humiliated in any way at the meeting. She probably did get some some dumb-founded looks but she was expecting that! Most of the people that attended the meeting are not on the computer and had no idea that this topic had actually been discussed so it did come as sort of a 'shocker'. If I hadn't been following these post I would have probably thought she had lost her mind!!! Believe me, Andy can and will stand her own ground!!!

Re: Chessie. All 178 people signed in on here should email Senator Robert C. Byrd (West Virginia) and Senator Jay Rockefeller. Go to Whitehouse.gov to get their addresses. Either email or write. If there is anything Senator Byrd could do, I think he would do. |

“Whoa Nellie” as Keith Jackson would say. I’m going to list some thoughts and ideas in the next few lines for consideration.
First I think I would contact the C&O and discuss your plan and see if they would donate or assist as well as the available of this caboose. It could end right there. The request needs to be from someone with credentials that has the capacity to act for that organization. Or someone who knows the right someone inside the C&O. Perhaps the C&O would refurbish the caboose and maintain it on their property to benefit the community. I don’t know how they could avoid liability if someone was injured. You need to be speaking to the person who can make decisions. Work on the assumption of a donation or $1.00 purchase.
I would locate someone with legal expertise that would donate his or her time. Remember the law departments in the colleges. You need an umbrella to work under. I’m thinking of the Rainelle Reunion, Town of Rainelle, Greenbrier County, School District, some non-profit organization, etc. Has the Rainelle Reunion washed their hands on this? What is the organization structure of the reunion?

“Whoa Nellie”. Can’t stop saying that since yesterday. I’ve gotten so good at saying,” Whoa Nellie” I sound like a cheap imitation. “Whoa Nellie”.
We could ride in under cover of darkness and rustle Chessie. I’ve reviewed the WV statues and there is nothing covering caboose rustling. Even rustlers have a plan so where are we going to park Chessie. Hiding it in plain site is good.
We can claim Chessie as an abandoned asset and move it to a new site. Any suggestions.

Don’t play the fiddle but wait a second while I get my harmonica and I’ll drop you something special. You gotta tap your foot though.
