Hello everyone,
Drumroll.... The Rainelle Website home page is up: www.rainellereunion.com
I hope you like it. We want it to be the best High School Reunion Website in the U.S. -- because our beloved Rainelle citizens and classmates deserve it!
We still have a lot of work to do & information to fill in, but we are well underway.
Your suggestions are most welcome. Volunteers are most welcome to help research information, poll classmates and collect information, and, if interested, to make updates to the site. If you can provide expertise in your specialty, that would be most helpful. For example, if you are a medical professional, your links and tips are most welcome. If you travel, travel tips will be appreciated. If you are in real estate, retired, build homes, drive a truck, take photos, paint, work in construction, farm, fix cars, pastor, are a homemaker, work on computers, etc., etc., you will have expertise and possibly links that may help someone. If you are a brilliant and humorous story-teller like Chris Dawson, "please" keep writing and keeping it interesting.
We hope you enjoy the site.
Dale

Lots of new information has been added to the Website. My favorite is the links to free oldies music sites. I will have to force myself to stay away from the Neil Sedaka, Bobby Vee, Connie Francis, Elvis, Drifters, Platters and other songs - see http://www.rainellereunion.com/memory-lane.html
Several classmates have sent photos and infomation. Numerous photos have been added to the site. The "In Memoriam" page has been updated. Interesting history and other links have been added. Pennie Zickafoose Burnett sent a list of teachers and I have added them to the History page. An announcement, for the Class of '56's upcoming reunion, has been added.
Some trivia -- isn't it cool that in 2006, we can still use the words "cool" and "hot", like we did in the 60's, and still be cool? I'm still getting used to "phat", however. When I get used to something, it is usually no longer cool.

I have discovered the perfect way to view the site, if your connection permits. Go to the Memory Lane free music links http://www.rainellereunion.com/memory-lane.html , click on the first link, Brian's Doowop fix, chose an oldiest button on the left, click "Play All", then let the 50's or 60's music play while you read the discussion board, photos and other parts of the site. It's almost like taking a trip into yester-year. Dale

Hello everyone,
What a blast it is to read the posts by everyone! (It is cool to say "what a blast" on this board.)
The site has several updates. Harold Ivers has sent some wonderful photos of the Shay Engine. Please see the Photos page: http://www.rainellereunion.com/photos.html - the History category. You will also see new photos of classmates and the Chessie caboose by Andy Aide Pendleton, plus several other photo updates.
Connard Estep mailed Gerry Mitchell the Class of 1953 yearbook. He also sent the booklet from the classes' 30th reunion. Gerry spent many hours scanning and preparing the photos - thank you, Gerry!! To view this very interesting and fun to view yearbook, see http://www.rainellereunion.com/53.html The yearbook has some interesting aerial views of the high school. Connard, the football players aren't wearing facemasks on their helmets??? The dentists must have done well during football season. Tom Rider's dental practice would have grown ever faster back then.
We look forward to receiving and scanning more yearbooks. So far, we have placed or in have in transit, the 53, 57, 58, 59, 60, 61, 62, 63, 64, 65, 66, 67 and 68 yearbooks. Evelyn Utterback Drake is scanning the 56 yearbook. If you have yearbooks we do not have, please let Gerry know - gerry.mitchell@rainellereunion.com
Rita Curd Bender sent newspaper photos of the Class of '38 that Gerry scanned and we have added to the Class of 38 page http://www.rainellereunion.com/38-40.html Several interesting links are on the Class of 38 page.
We use Photoworks.com and Kodak Gallery for a few reasons. First, it would take massive amounts of storage if we placed each photo on a server in its original size (typically 1MB or more.) Photoworks.com and Kodak reduce the size of the photos and they provide the storage at no charge. Plus, they offer several additional features such as slide shows and the ability to "share" and order prints. If you would like to have an original sized digital version of a photo out of a yearbook or other source, Gerry or I usually have a copy and can e-mail it to you.
Reunion updates are on the Reunion Committee page.
Most pages have updates so drop by & visit.
Please do not be reluctant to post to the board. You can easily edit your posts or ask me to do so. Classmates would love to hear from you. If you are reluctant, however, but wish to honor a teacher, friend, memory or just make a general post, feel free to e-mail your comments to me or Andy and we will post it for you and place your name at the end of your post.
Don't hesitate to ask if you forget your user name or want to change it. It is a quick, easy proces and I am always happy to do it.

Thank you, Chris and everyone for your nice comments. This has been and continues to be very enjoyable and rewarding.
If you can volunteer some time to do some research, we would love to get your help.
It would be a nice addition to the site to collect trivia and history for each class year. I did some Web searching and found fun facts about 1964 to use as an example, e.g.,
1964..........
Economy President: Lyndon B. Johnson Vice President: Hubert Humphrey
Population: 191,888,791 Life expectancy: 70.2 years
Prices New home: $20,500 New car: $2,350 First-class stamp: $.05 Gallon of regular gas: $.28 Dozen eggs: $.54 Gallon of Milk: $1.00 Average income: $5,880
Top 10 TV Shows Bonanza Bewitched Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. The Andy Griffith Show The Fugitive The Red Skelton Show The Dick Van Dyke Show The Lucy Show Peyton Place II Combat
World Series Winner: St. Louis Cardinals - Coach: Johnny Keane Losing Team: NY Yankees - Coach: Yogi Berra
Music, News Items (Cassius Clay wins, Jimmy Hoffa indicted), etc., etc.
If you can volunteer to gather information for your class or other classes, please gather it and send it to me by e-mail and I will be happy to post it. You can do Web searches and use other sources, but some good places to start are: http://www.iwannagetthat.com/ http://www.1960sflashback.com/1964/Economy.asp http://www.babyboomers.com/yrindex.htm http://www.kimandjason.com/pages/show_n_tell/time_capsule/index.html
Please see my 1964 example of trivia/history data at: http://www.rainellereunion.com/64.html#history
Please contact me with any questions.

A gracious volunteer has put together several years of facts and trivia for us (1960 through 1969). The volunteer wishes to remain anonymous. I will place them on the appropriate class pages today or tomorrow. Then, we will welcome your additions to the pages, plus we welcome the other years. Thank you, gracious volunteer!

Thanks to Pudge Miller Vandall, who supplied her '57 and '58 yearbook, and to Gerry Mitchell for his painstaking hours of scanning, we now have the 1957 yearbook online: http://www.rainellereunion.com/57.html
Connard Estep and Pudge have sent yearbooks to Gerry. Ron Fleshman is sending several. We are making great progress. Please contact Gerry if you have a yearbook you will let him use for few days - gerry.mitchell@rainellereunion.com Gerry is very good about getting them back to you promptly.
Gerry had the great idea of scanning some of the historic ads in the yearbook that pictures photos such as Boley Chevolet, Rexall Drug, the Idle Hour Pool Room and Haynes Refrigeration. For some great memories, see http://www.kodakgallery.com/I.jsp?c=u46feyk.ow8co5s&x=0&y=ik3rcx The link will also be on the photos page under History links and on the '57 page.
This yearbook was dedicated to Mr. McClung. Flattops were in for the guys.
Update: 3-9-06 - Gerry sent some additional ad photos from the '58 yearbook. They are very interesting and nostalgic. They have been added to the above link.

Hello everyone. Gerry is on a roll - thank you, Gerry! The 1962 yearbook photos are posted - http://www.rainellereunion.com/62.html
This is a great yearbook. You'll see lots of white socks and crew cuts. Does anyone know if Tom Bobbitt and Marvin Vaughn are still wearing them? They wore them well. One of the pages is entitled, "As time goes by and we grow old." I guess it will happen one of these days.
Chris Dawson forwarded a great link - Old Radio Shows. The page includes links to free shows by Bob Hope, Benny Goodman, Eddie Arnold, etc. - comedies, dramas, mysteries, varieties, westerns, music, etc. He also sent a link to Saving History From The Dumpster. See the Memories & Flashbacks page - http://www.rainellereunion.com/memory-lane.html Thank you, Chris!
Chris, the Abbot & Costello routine under the discussion board sports topic was great fun to hear again. Their timing is amazing - they are still among the best.

HELP! We need more yearbooks for Gerry to scan.
Pudge and Connard sent yearbooks to Gerry. He has scanned and returned them. Evelyn Utterback Drake has scanned the '56 yearbook and sent the link. Ron Fleshman has some yearbooks on the way go Gerry.
So far, Gerry has scanned or has in transit to him, from Ranger classmates, the years 53, 57, 58, 59, 60, 61, 62, 63, 64, 65, 66, 67, 68.
If you know the first year the yearbook was published, please let us know.
Second, if you have one of the years we do not have, please let Gerry know at gerry.mitchell@rainellereunion.com If you know someone who might have one the missing ones, please let Gerry or me know. Gerry will scan them and return them to you promptly and in excellent condition.
Thank you!
Dale

Hello everyone - we have some updates. It appears that we have 1941, 1942, 1943, 1944 and 1945 yearbooks on the way for Gerry to scan.
We have made some updates to the In Memoriam page http://www.rainellereunion.com/in-memoriam.html We will add additional photos when we have scanned some additional yearbooks. Please feel free to send memoriam comments, your tribute or obituary information.
We added West Virginia Treasury Unclaimed Assets to the Links page http://www.rainellereunion.com/links.html I had heard, in the past, I was on the page and checked and... indeed, I have some money coming. Check to see if you are on the list. If you don't want the money, I'll file for you and donate the money to the Rainelle Reunion Oldtimer Webmaster Retirement Fund.
We continue to make updates to the Memory Lane page http://www.rainellereunion.com/memory-lane.html
Thank you for your contributions and suggestions! Dale

Hello everyone. We have several upddates. J.L. Holsberry sent a large, wonderful photo of the first Rainelle schoolhouse. You can see it at on the photos page http://www.rainellereunion.com/photos.html under History.
Gerry Mitchell has rescanned several yearbooks, adding several additional photos and putting the photos in order. The 60, 61, 63 and 64 yearbooks have been redone, please see: http://www.rainellereunion.com/classes.html More will follow. The scan quality is excellent.
Some exciting news is that Norma Zopp has sent the 1941, 1942, 1943, 1944 and 1945 yearbooks to Gerry. Gerry has reviewed them and passed on that they have some wonderful history and information and are very interesting. This was during the WW II period, as you know. Gerry said that it is interesting how the yearbooks were put together. Thank you, Norma! It was very kind of you to send these 60+ year-old treasures to us. Gerry will be scanning them over the next few days and I will post the update notices as they are ready for viewing. Dale
