All, Curtis Carruthers and I were recently talking about how much we enjoyed the 2010 reunion and wish that we had more time to talk with so many more folks. Additionally, some people couldn't make it last summer. I've been thinking. That often gets me into trouble. The reunion committee did a superb job and gave up much of their time and I don't think we can impose on them again so soon. Note that I said "so soon." I wonder if there is interest and a way to have a mini-reunion for those who would like to get together. Perhaps we could meet near the school or somewhere and, perhaps, we could find a place to have dinner somewhere that could accommodate us. I plan to be in Rainelle at that time. I know that some of us would put up the money to reserve a location, etc. Please write on the discussion board if you have any interest or write to me and I will post your comments.

Dale,

I am interested---and will contact other members of the Class of 1965 to see if they might like to attend the mini-reunion.

July 4th is on a Monday---maybe we could meet on the weekend---July 2nd?

One of our Ranger alumni wrote that her husband's class at an out of state school has an alumni event each year. She said that, "The gathering is held in the gym of the school. The 50 year class is recognized by name and the other classes by year of graduation. The class of 50 years desginates a speaker, who sits on the stage and the rest of the class in a group on the floor. There may be a speaker that taught the 50 year class. It's a very low key program and each class is free to do as it pleases. But, everyone knows that the school will gather on Memorial Day weekend, every year."

She said, this is "just an idea" and followed with, "I know the events that we have had in the past are very labor intensive and the fact....none of us are the young set anymore! Just hauling those picnic tables around make me tired to think about."

She also said that, "There have also been conversations that July 4th is not a good time to travel, maybe a cooler time of year, on a weekend that is not a holiday. With the age of our alumni, there are more who are retired than those who still work."

She said, "Do you remember that our town used to have a parade and a carnival around the 4th? It was a great place and time to grow up."

I remember the carnival well. I always wanted to climb the greased pole and that nice sum of money at the top, but was never able to make it more than a couple feet off the ground. It was a fun time.

I like her ideas and welcome any follow-up to the board or to me and I'll be glad to post them with or without your name, whichever you prefer.

Dale
