You are correct, Janet - it was called "Slabtown". J.R. supplied the answers to me in advance. I would like to know why it was called Slabtown if someone could supply that.
We'll see if anyone answers the "streets" question & if not, I'll post the answer. Thanks, Dale

East Rainelle was called [ Slabtown] Ron
Gerry Mitchell wrote the following as to why East Rainelle was called Slabtown - "East Rainelle was called Slabtown because the main streets were so muddy that slabs of lumber mill wood would be laid down in the walks and streets so people could walk across the muddy streets and try to keep out of the mud. My mom remembers such a situation well."

Andy, you got half of it. According to the J.L. Holsberry answer book, the greens keepers were Bill Wells and "Little Potts Kenvey". Dale

The streets were named by J.L. Holsberry, Postmaster at Rainelle, and French Powers, Postmaster at East Rainelle.
This is fun---hope J.L. has more!!!

Patty, I agree - they are fun. It looks like J.L. has many more. I've set up a J.L. folder in my Outlook to which his enjoyable trivial questions will be routed and I will post them as they arrive. If anyone else has some trivia questions, please post or forward them to me. The latest is below:
On Rt. 60 west going up to the first Rainelle reservoir there was a path to left of it that went up into the woods to a spot used for camping or just a cookout. What was its name?
