Posted - 04/14/2011 : 15:14:08 Our 7th Annual "L.Z. Rainelle - West Virginia Veterans' Reunion" will be held May 26 through May 30, 2011. Festivities will kick off with the arrival of the Run For The Wall group on May 26. The reception will be at Rainelle School starting at noon.
We have two fabulous displays returning to Rainelle this year. "Bringing Home The Wall" (a small replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall) and "The Quilt Of Tears" (a collection of 26 quilts all themed in honor of Agent Orange victims). Both will be open for public viewing from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily May 26 through May 29 and from 8 a.m. until noon on May 30.
Other activities during the weekend: Friday night - Candlelight Memorial Service at the VFW Memorial Sat - noon parade and speakers from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. Sat - 4:30 p.m. - Memorial Service for CSM John "Top" Holland ( a WWII, Korea and Vietnam Veteran) Sunday - 9 a.m. - Community Worship Service conducted by Rev. John Steer ... a highly decorated Vietnam Veteran Sunday afternoon - Gospel sing with 3 groups currently scheduled to perform including our "local" favorites the "Shady Oaks" group.
Additionally, April Lewis from Alderson will be having the 2nd Annual "Miss Freedom Pageant" on May 21 and 22 at Rainelle School. Four Queens (Little Miss Freedom, Miss Teen Freedom, Ms. Freedom and Mrs. Freedom) will be crowned during the pageant.
Lots of fun, fellowship and educational opportunities ... but the most important aspect of our weekend ... PFC Bowe Bergdahl remains a Prisoner Of War following his capture on June 30, 2009. One of the primary focuses of our weekend will be the sad fact that he remains a POW and we want him brought home ALIVE ... NOW!!!!!
Hope you can join us!! |
