 Does anyone remember my parents Drive In (Hazel's) in Charmco, across from the Drive In Theater? I remember so many of you coming there to eat Mom's famous hotdogs. Yummy!

Hello everyone, I finally found a good hot dog in North Carolina. And... I found much more. It occurred to me to stop at a Char-Grill restaurant in Raleigh since I knew they featured 50's style music and decor, etc. I was rewarded with a wonderful hot dog with chili, slaw, onions, ketchp - the works! It was almost as good as a C&H hot dog.
Even better, in addition to playing 50's style music, the cooks wear t-shirts 50's style, the tables and booths are 50's style and the waiting sofa is the back end of a '57 chevrolet. A 50's scooter hangs from the ceiling. 50's automobiles' photos are on the walls. A Pepsi machine that has 10 cent soda bottles is in the corner (sealed off.) Here is the Website - http://www.chargrillusa.com/5.html They have 4 locations in NC. It was fun and I enjoyed the hot dog while listening to Elvis's "She's not you." It can't get any better than that, at least not in North Carolina.  Dale

A gypsy you say. Something to be said for being free spirited.
I don’t know for sure but perhaps someone will come along directly and explain more clearly than I how it is to go “along a mountain track and as you go, sing”. It helps to pass the time that’s for sure.
This time of the year we can still get a storm or two and its good to remember “beneath this snowy mantle cold and clean the unborn grass lies waiting for its coat to turn to green” and sure enough it will.
Have a safe trip. And when anyone ask which way is home, point in two directions at the same time and say, “That way”.

Chris: We still have our home in WV. That is our home-base. We are "have suitcase/will travel". I spend as much time up there as I can. Never rented it - we are very fortunate to have a nephew and brother in law who have aided and abetted our coming and going. When the world is "too much with me late and soon" I go home and hide out for weeks at a time haha. I love to sit on the former Aide's parking lot, eat my Hardee's biscuit and look at the mountains to the east. Gypsy's - we are gypsy's.    did i get more smiley's than Andy??? Oh, Chris, we have been in this living mode for 10 years - spent most of our lives right there in Rupert. |

Wonderful!! Thank you, Pudge. I will eat a hot dog or two at J&S, cruise Rainelle, then go back and eat another one - just like old times. I am looking forward to this!
Paul Boggs is another memory. He treated my mom and dad very nicely.

Dale, when you come to Rainelle try J&S rest. I t where C& H Drive-Inn was. Around the curve from Paul Boggs's. They have great hot dogs. You can get them either steamed ot toasted. If you get back here try them and let me know. |

I was so anxious for a chilidog last evening that I had a t-bone and baked potato. 
All the while kept telling myself, this is really a great chilidog.
I look forward to another chili t-bone dog in the near future. Bun was not included.

Hurry, Skipper or Polly. I even tried a Hardy's hot dog. It wasn't bad, suprisingly. They offer chili, onions and mustard, but no slaw. But, it wasn't a Rainelle hot dog. I'm getting desparate.

Skip, I also remember when they had the little store where May Tag is now. I seem to remember the ironing machine she had at that time . It sure was a big thing , she had it in the back of the store. Tell me if I am wrong. Pudge |

Skip: Didn't Fonce and Hazel have a little "custard" stand on Greenbrier Avenue many years ago? I remember my dad taking us to that stand and getting our ice cream. Fonce and Hazel were always so kind to us. Marilyn |

Of course Skipper I recall your Mom’s drive in, I think I had left WV. By the time she opened that Drive in, but when we would visit home we would stop and get a hot dog or two. I also recall your Dad Fonce bought the first rotary mower I had ever seen, what a wonder that was at the time. I also remember when your Mother bought a new Buick with pocket change that the family had saved up. Your family was very good next door neighbors to have. Do you recall when your Uncle Kieth delivered milk and eggs to families in East Rainelle, I sure do. Hope to see you and Martha at the next Reunion. Oh shoot!and K.C. also
